What each tool is for

  • Dabbers — the pointed or paddle-ended tool you use to pick up and place concentrate. Stainless steel handles everything; glass is better on flavour but snaps.
  • Scoops — flat-ended tools for badder and sauce, which will not stay on a pointed dabber.
  • Carb caps — restrict airflow over the banger so the concentrate vaporises at a lower temperature. The single biggest upgrade to a dab.
  • Banger hangers and stands — somewhere to rest a hot banger that is not your table.

Matching the tool to the consistency

Shatter and diamonds need a pointed tip to break a piece off. Badder, sauce and live resin need a scoop or a flat paddle — a pointed dabber just pushes them around. If you buy one tool, buy a double-ended one with a point at one end and a scoop at the other.

Keeping tools clean

Wipe the tip with isopropyl after every use while it is still warm. Residue on a dabber ends up in your next dab, and it hardens into something you have to soak off. Store tools somewhere they will not pick up dust or lint — silicone containers work well.
