The Bayside Series is Cookies’ everyday water pipe: thick borosilicate, a stable base and enough water volume to cool the smoke properly without becoming something you need a shelf for. It sits in the space most people actually want — noticeably smoother than a dry pipe, small enough to keep on a desk.

Water filtration does two things here. It drops the temperature of the smoke before it reaches you, and it catches some of the particulate on the way through. The result is a hit you can take in one pull without the harshness a hand pipe gives you.

Getting the best from it

• Fill so the downstem slits sit about half an inch under the water. More than that and you get splashback.
• Change the water every session — this is where the smell comes from, not the smoke.
• Deep clean weekly with 91% isopropyl and coarse salt, then rinse until there is no smell at all.
