Scale

Digital pocket scales and precision scales from AWS (American Weigh Scales) and D-TEK, accurate down to 0.001 g. Compact, backlit and battery-powered, with capacities from 50 g jewellery models to 1200 g platform scales — the right tool for accurate measuring every time.

Reading the spec

Two numbers matter, and people usually look at the wrong one.

  • Readability (0.01g, 0.1g, 1g) is the smallest increment the scale will display. For small amounts, 0.01g is what you want.
  • Capacity (100g, 500g, 1200g) is the maximum load. Higher capacity almost always means coarser readability — you cannot have 0.01g precision at 1200g in a pocket scale.

Pick the smallest capacity that covers what you actually weigh. A 100g × 0.01g scale is more accurate in daily use than a 1000g × 0.1g one.

Getting accurate readings

Put the scale on a hard, level surface — never on a carpet, a bed or your lap. Let it settle and read zero before loading. Use the tare function to subtract a tray or container. Keep it away from draughts, phone chargers and vibration. If readings drift, recalibrate with the weight supplied or a known reference; most scales drift slightly after being carried around.

Looking after it

Close the lid or fit the cover before it goes in a bag — pressure on the platform is what kills load cells. Remove the batteries if it will sit unused for months. Wipe the platform with a dry cloth; do not spray liquid onto it.

Why does it show a different weight each time?

Usually an unlevel surface or a draught. Check both before assuming it is faulty.

What does the calibration weight do?

It resets the reference point so readings stay true. Store it where it will not get scratched — a damaged weight calibrates the scale wrongly.
